The two terminals are very close to each other. The Terminal 1 is the old one built in 1080s while the terminal 2 was completed in 2007, much larger than T1. When planning a trip to Xian, one of the frequently asked questions likely to tantalize you is "When is the best time to visit Xian?". Unlike other cities in China, Xian attractions are mostly historical relics which have little influence by seasons. As a matter of fact, Xian is a place which you can visit on all seasons.
Xian is laid out on a neat grid pattern centrally denoted by the massive Bell Tower (钟楼), which radiates out four major streets: Nan Dajie (South Avenue - 南大街), Bei Dajie (North Aevenue - 北大街), Dong Dajie (East avenue - 东大街) and Xi Dajie (West Avenue - 西大街). Xian Railway Station is located outside the northeast corner of Xian city wall while Xian Xianyang Airport is located 40km northwest of Xian.
The ancient city wall still surrounds the downtown Xian in a rectangular shape with four gates lingking the four major streets extending from the Bell Tower in the center of the ctiy. Most of the attractions can be found close to the Bell Tower like Drum Tower, Great Mosque. However, some of the city sights, such as the Shaanxi Museum, Big Goode Pagoda and Little Goose Pagoda are located south of the city wall. The Terra-cotta Warriors is located about 30km east of Xian downtown.
Getting around in the city of Xian is also very convenient. The city of Xian is laid out on a grid pattern with clear road signs. Most of the attractions within the wall are walkable or bike friendly.
The tourism buses connect those sights a little far from the city center. The taxi rates are much lower than those in Beijing and Shanghai. Two of the six planned subway lines are under construction. In a word, Xi'an transportation is independent traveler friendly.
Xian has an increasing number of accommodations options ranging from budget hostels to upscale international chain hotels such as Sheraton, Shangri-la, the Accor.
